Christians & Science
Atheists
Obviously, not all scientists are followers of Christ. Some are hostile to Christianity and God. Some examples:
"Science can teach us, and I think our own hearts can teach us, no longer to look around for imaginary supports, no longer to invent allies in the sky, but rather to look to our own efforts here below to make this world a better place to live in, instead of the sort of place the churches in all these centuries have made it." -- "Why I am Not a Christian", by Bertrand Russell, March 6, 1927.
Pierre Simon Laplace: When presented with a copy of Laplace's writing of Celestial Mechanics, Napoleon is said to have remarked, "I see no mention of God in this work". Laplace is said to have replied, "Sir, I have no need of that hypothesis."
There are other examples.
What are we to conclude? Mathematician Richard Bube claims "There are proportionately as many atheistic truck drivers as there are atheistic scientists." What do we conclude? (1) Contrary to claims to the contrary, intellect does not diminish faith. The Gospel of Christ can be embraced by the illiterate, children with Down syndrome, a child and the intellectually gifted. (2) To intellectuals who embrace Christ, the Gospel successfully withstands the deepest scrutiny.
