At the 13th annual Emmy Awards in 1961, Dennis Weaver presented
a celebrated parody of Hamlet. In total seriousness, Weaver delivered
"TV
or not TV, that is the question. Whether `tis nobler
in to suffer the slugs and arrows of Bonanza ... or switch to Perry
Mason."
His skit, all agreed, stole the show.
Weaver
said, "I'm not really into making fun of
Hamlet. I will do the parody if I'm able to approach it as though it were
the real
work."
By making the
presentation this way, Weaver made the parody
hilarious.
