- JAMES ARNESS
(U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon) - A gentle
young giant of a man, James Arness has climbed to stardom and acclaim as
GUNSMOKE'S Marshal Dillon. Born in Minneapolis Minn. and educated at Beloit
College in Wisconsin, he fought and was wounded in Italy while with the
third Infantry Division in World War II. His success in GUNSMOKE and motion
pictures was preceded by working in stock theater in the Los Angeles area
where he met his wife, the former Virginia Chapman. With their three children,
Craig, Jenny Lee and Rolf, they live in a rambling home on the Pacific
Palisades.
- DENNIS WEAVER
(Chester) - One of Hollywood's busiest young actors, who as Matt Dillon's
assistant on GUNSMOKE plays a lame, homespun and likeable major domo in
the Marshal's office. In reality, he is one of motion picture's most versatile
performers and is anything but lame in real life, having been one of Oklahoma
University's all-time track stars. Born in Joplin Mo. and educated at Joplin
Junior College and Oklahoma U., he was an ensign in the Navy for two years.
He has appeared on the Broadway stage and toured extensively. He is married
to the former "Cherry" Sopwell and they live in North Hollywood
Cal with their two sons, Rick and Rob.
- AMANDA BLAKE
(Kitty) - The actress brings a most provocative acting touch in the role
of the saloon girl in the authentic GUNSMOKE TV series, which dramatizes
the exploits of a U.S. Marshal in frontier Dodge City before the turn of
the century. Born in Buffalo New York, and educated in California, she
brings a wide theatrical experience in her role. Live theater activity,
radio acting, roles in motion pictures and more recently, starring appearances
in television preceded her selection for the important assignment as Kitty.
- MILBURN STONE (Doc)
- A veteran of show business and one of its finest character actors, he
was born in Burton, Kansas where he attended school and received an appointment
to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis - which he promptly declined because
he had made up his mind to be an actor. Touring with stock companies led
to important roles in Broadway and later in Hollywood where he has made
more than 150 motion pictures. His lifelong hoppy of furniture designing
recently developed into a thriving enterprise specializing in custome-build
furniture and antique reproductions.
